This is called waste of brain power ... cramming as much as you can from the dictionary and god knows what. It would have been much better if a child learns some skill or diverts the mind towards exploring a problem or invention . What use is cramming the dictionary when it is available right on your phone now . If you have the internet all the world's knowledge is searchable.

In Michigan they don't even look at your visa to renew your license.

See we dont know what you wrote, so without that you might find people that find it offensive, simply because they have no idea what you just said.
It is like you going out with friends and one of them doesn not speak your language, so wouldnt you speak English to make sure he or she isnt left out and feels uncomfortable?
Plus if it gives people goosebumps and is a great piece of poetry share it all of us :-)

Well, last year i was in a similar situation too ,actually worse than yours.My project ended in February '08.Then i went to India for 4 months. After i got back , my employer refused to pay for my health inssurance.I opted for COBRA and was paying 1200$ for my family , with my husband and child listed as dependants.I attended several interviews,while I was expecting my second child . Though its against the law, many were skeptical in employing me as a consultant during this time. I was very lucky to get a full time offer using my EAD, where my health coverage started after 60 days .All this time, without a project , i was paying through my nose for the health insurance using COBRA.
Ofcourse, i never bothered to inform my employer about my new employement.(Do i need to??)One fine day, i get an update on my H1 application , that the case has been reopened for review , and i get to know through my employer that he has CANCELLED my H1(got a 3 year extension based an approved I140).He did not give me chance to transfer it, inspite of me working rather slogging for 4 years , during which he shamelessly took the overtime money i earned as part of the billing.Though, i feel cheated,used etc etc.... but i did nothing. What could i have done?
All through my journey in this GC process, i have had bitter experiences with desi employers.Though i've been in this country for 10 long years, i am still sitting waiting for my GC with the PD of Dec '05!! The previous employer, said he was filing my GC under EB2 but actually used EB3. And he also was willing to 'sell me my labor' for 12k!!!!! when i requested for retaining the PD. I coulddo nothing..
I am not writing all this to vent my anger but to make you think that there could be other worse things happening to us.
Also can somebody educate me on the 'stimulus' ,please?(pardon my ignorance)

I really wish all the desi companies,who get people from India,and put them on bench to find a project ,be banned. They screwed H1B, and in turn all the deserving H1B candidates.

Try to respect others and feel sorry about their situation.
I feel sorry for the people who live in slums of dharavi but not for people who should not have been in the US in the first place (based on their education) and are now finding ways to get ahead of the legit EB2 candidates by buying masters degrees.

Firstly I am not from India where most of your guys come from. Instead from Taiwan 2 and half year ago. As travelled much between Asia countrys, no much time staying is US office although I based here. Yes, my English is poor and broken but this is not a fake story, make no sense for me. Just kill the time???
When cops knock out your room, handcuff your hands on the back, force you stay down at the corner , if you could keep calm and state very clearly. I can only show my respect but unfortunately I did not make it. This is my first time. :( Should be the last time either.
Now the negative point is mostly from my statement, no matter whether you believe, the attorney told me drag with anger is battery. we think that's okay does not mean it is okay on the law. So I wish you guys be careful on this kind of play around to avoid any trouble. I knew you all have better english than me. so you could explain clearly :) But Same level, do it on your spouse is even worse on a stranger.
I create this thread just wish listen your opinion and try public view how much chance I can win the jury trail. Some of your advice is really helpful and I will take them.
My wife is writing the mail to DA and wish it helpful to my case. I will have several rehearsal with my attorney in coming weeks. Anyway, we will fight for the justice and not accept that ridiculous battery charge.

This is a situation because of cross-cultural differences, ignorence of law of land, weaker knowledge of English, etc. It might not have been aggrivated, had you been in your native country.
Once in Japan, I crossed rails to go to next platform and caught by police for doing so. I explained them my childhood, when every day I used to do so in small town and it was OK there. Police told me that they understand me, and asked me not to repeat again there.
My son asked for Samurai. On airport, the moment police saw it, they snatched it from me. They kept it under their possession and handed over to airlines to give me back at destination.
I feel that police and people are considerate to situation.
So, based on my experience of sevaral such things happening due to ignorance and past habits:
.... Use translater and explain in native language (You can say that you know technical language to work in office, but don't know day-to-day language. You don't know difference between drag, pull, take along, etc).
.... If you have any cultural example, explaining up to what level it is acceptable in your society.
You must understand that under law of land, the way happening has been explained to police is serious offence. So work around explanation based on language gap, cultural gap, traditions gaps, etc. to minimize its impact. Show your preparedness to accept bridging of gaps to meet the law of land.

Could you be more specific or elaborate what to mention on the g-639 form under #4 which says Identify the documents records , or information you are seeking?
Please validate and this would greatly help to others. The only reason I am asking is I am not sure what documents can be requested such as perm labor can be requested or not. Your help greatly appreciated.

I'm surprised that everybody in this thread got so scared of the language in a stupid bill and stopped thinking how clever Indians are in finding loopholes. I hate when all the extra-ordinary people think in the same direction. To start with, is it possible that these jokers will pass anything agaist the will of big techs like microsoft, intel, csco, think again? even if they did to make average(stupid) Joe happy, they wil keep loopholes making the law irrelevent. e.g. H1 quota limited but L1 unlimited. businesses more than 50 emps can not have more than 50% H1Bs, what do u think big desi consulting cos are in trouble? they will simply 10 more companies each having 49 people.
Other direction: when i came to US in '99 from SEEPZ, my US salary(in Rupees) was 12 times my indian salary, now it's just 2 times. Indian salaries are increasing 10-20% every year, and Dollar is going down (down 20% in 6 years, 40% including indian inflation), very soon there will be no advantage in coming over here, and you are worrying about future H1s having trouble getting GC?
No matter how stupid and selfish politician look/sound they always think about their contries future, and folks these are US politicians. take it easy and take a walk outside, it's nice out there.

Absolutely true, It is torturing the kids for the aspirations of the parents to be seen in the national TV and for award.
It is not the poor kids are not getting the award, it is the parent, especially it is the trend with indians.
why ? ask your kids to do same and see what you feel on that night. can your kids do same ? forget about torturing or anything for a moment. Didn't you see Nupur Lala a past winner where she is now ? if she was torture for that competition she would n't be in MIT. its a competition of brain power to me.
