The actual problem is, the Congress. Lawmakers are the problem. They know everything what is going on. They know that not just desi companies but even larger companies take advantage of the vulnerable part of the society - the immigrants. Inspite of having all the information, the lawmakers deliberately did not add necessary protections for immigrants. And, even if the system becomes more efficient, people who enjoy the gutter will continue to live in the gutter. No laws or protections can help folks like you. Every now and then, just come to forum like these and rant once in a while. That's what you will do. The fact is you do not need better treatment or benefits. You need better therapy to tell you that you can come out of the gutter.
..............
.
Well said. It is the government that forces us to live in this situation. Even for basic needs like drivers license, we need to suffer discrimination and prejudice in this country.
We should be fighting against these injustices rather than fighting among ourselves.
It is very simple. If you ended up with an employer you don't like, plan on moving away from that employer.

navkap,
I personally am not questioning Robinder's achievements/accomplishments. I am glad that the media mishap is ironed out and it ends there as one of our member said. No one has personal grudges here. You have been a member of IV from 2006 and know Robinder to an extent where you can go on a limb, how come you havent pushed him hard to support this, if not along with IV, but on his own. I have been visting a lot of immigration related internet forums for a while and I never saw any efforts towards this from any American Indian Citizen community. It could just be a coincidence that I might have not noticed any such efforts. I am more than happy to end this discussion here and stop retrospecting. The media mishap has been clarified. Lets leave it there, unless the American Citizen Indian community wants to do their part in achieving our common goal.
What say?
Lets put an end to this debate. I am not quoting this statement to mean anything to any individual or organization in this debate we had on the thread concerning USINPAC.
I get reminded of an old qoute. Here it goes- " Sucess has a hundred fathers and failure is an orphan"- Quoted by unknown.
You will see this happening over and again if you look around you in your daily lives, at work and in the community. There is nothing unususal about it, just the way we human beings are...!

Also your article can be used by us for US media (opportunity #2) Pls. use your analytical skills and number crunching you displayed on other thread in your article. You can tilt it towards CIR bill and how much we high skilled immigrants need a relief measure, to make it more timely and we will get it published in first week of March in american media to time it with activities on CIR.

gc101, if you are not able to get married before you you file your I485 (by Aug 17th). I would recommend that you file alone. these are my reasons for this recommendation:
1) You have more options open to you for your wife after you file I485 (ie. throught family based categories, even though the wait time is 7 years).
2) If you don't file now and have to wait for you PD to get current, with the current laws that might be close to 6-7 years. In this time you might get your GC and your citizenship too. After citizenship your wife can get her GC very quickly.

USCIS has specified that they would have processed all the records into a single database by 29th October.
Does this not mean that there could be a forward movement in the Nov bullietin ?
Based on this (although not sure where USCIS posted this date), the DOS wouldn't be able to use that data till the end of October (at the earliest) or early November (likely). Meaning that the December bulletin (issued ~mid-Nov) might be the one to watch for any movement (forward or backward).

I'm not sure if Pederson Immigration Law Group is a real law firm. Anybody know this firm or worked with them. Lets wait for real bulletin.

They are talking about Both H1b and Green card. Corporations are pushing for increase in H1b also. But this time they are giving some importance to green card also. That is a good development. Already Skil bill by Cornyn is there. May be in next few weeks it may come for voting with or without attachment. But approximately 4 to 5 votes will decide the fate of the bill as usual in the Senate. And also as usual anti immigrants may push Durbin Grassley bill. We will wait and see.
are we sure that they are not talking only about H1b?
Does following mean they are looking at Green Card as well ?
"attract and retain high-skilled workers to contribute and excel in the U.S. economy without unnecessary delays and waiting periods?

on the contrary, the point based system completely eliminates the need of a lawyer, with the canadian and australian system u just need to do the work urself online and the balls starts rolling then, it'll be interesting how they react to this
Maybe for the educated few (in the crowd of thousands with different eligibilities). And imagine a few millions with no or dubious papers getting on the line in next few years. Just because one can apply for PR with Canada and Australia easily, it cannot be assumed that the process would be similar for US. I do not know about Australia, but comparted to Canada, I am pretty sure there would be more people wanting to come to US and the restrictions are going to be more. Three things are inescapable here for anything to do with the feds: tax, lawyers and lawyers. Any immigration reform in which the lion's share does not go to the lawyers will not reach even the banks of Potomac.

We all are working and in this economy everyone is worried about losing job if they don't go to work. I have two little kids and I work full time. I already used the vacation that I got for this year, it because of kids being sick one after the other and need to be off again next month for loss of pay for a kid's surgery. I know its just two more days and might result in something positive but I can't take a chance of losing my job and then don't have a job when its time for my 485 to be approved resulting in denial.
I will donate money but unfortunately, I can't come for the advocacy day. It is a sticky situation for many.

Hello Guys,
I need your advice here. Six month ago i joined one of the many blood suckers -Desi cosulting company in new jersey. As you all know, they ask me to sign their contract in which its mention that if i leave their company before 1 year then i need to pay them 15k. Thy also charge me 3k for my H1-B which i am still paying everymonth from my paycheck and we have 70/30. In just six months i am so much fed up with them. These people are so rude...always show their arrogance over phone. I have no libarity to find job by myself. They always looking for higher pay rate sp that their big money tummy get filled up.and i also feel that they didnt told me the right pay rate for the project i am working on right now.
I really want to leave them, Even before 12 months. Is there any importance of that contract letter i signed with them?. Can they Sue me? What are my options? Please suggest me.....i am in stress.
Thnx
Leave them. they can't do anything. just make sure you get your last months salary into your account. point to note that once you see you salary into your account its take around 2-3 more days to make the final transaction into your account.
GTSS,Inc bugger did this some us when we left it. these a%*&^ss holes live on our salaries and shameless dont pay us when we leave them.

Fasting is good for health too!...:D
Jokes apart, why would anyone care about one day of fasting.
I would support a day of fasting as a mark of protest to draw attention towards the broken immigration system.

Point based system!!!! Is this is joke???? Tell me this is not true and this is just a bad dream, please!!!!
Lets see what a point based system has done to people..... Whom do we have here, a doctor, an engineer and one MBA. OK!!! Lets see what Point based system did to these guys -

No offense to anybody from Canada. I am simply trying to illustrate the rationale about the GREATEST IDEA OF THE CENTURY, THE SILVER BULLET, THE FINAL FRONTIER TO ALL IMMIGRATION PROBLEMS - "point based system"!!!!! Oh really???
As such, Canada does not really have as many jobs as in US. Offcourse it is a fact that PhD and Doctors drive cabs in Canada because they can't find jobs, but someone who is not a US citizen finds a good job in USA because it is simply the land of opportunities.
I am not saying points system is the best, but opportunities play an important role and thats why US has so many jobs compared to other countries, though so many jobs are outsourced. There is always growing demand and the economy is huge and accomodative.
Canada on the other hand is still slow to add jobs it the pace America does because of the lack of infrastructure (As I have not been in Canada, I don't have much information on how things work, but I know for sure that getting jobs is very difficult)
We must have a seperate thread on merits and demerits of points based system over the existing system and the issues being faced in countries like Canada etc..

Hindus could be anywhere in the world, not just India. Being a Hindu does not automatically mean you are an Indian. You could be a citizen of any country. So it does not establish the notion that it is an India centric website.
Just like all Muslims are not from Saudi Arabia. They are in 100's of different countres and citizens of diverse nations from UK and Malaysia to Australia and Germany. Christians could be from Europe, Australia and India or the African continent or China and other parts of Asia. I personally know Hindus that are from Fiji, Trinidad, Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, UK, Canada and they are not Indian citizens.
Moreover, Diwali is for everybody, Just like X'MAS is. You can be an American and be a Hindu. So There is no question of IV getting targetted as India-centric or Indian issues-specific website.
